Western Men's Soccer loses 4-3 to Guelph in high scoring soccer match!

Sat. 10/15/2011 - UWO WEBSITE
The Western Mustangs faced the Guelph Gryphons this afternoon at TD Waterhouse Stadium. The Gryphons took the game 4-0 putting the Mustangs at 5-4-4 on the season. Haris Cekic scored twice for the Western Mustangs, but could not match Guelph Gryphon and OUA West leading-scorer Robert Murphy’s four goals on the day. Cekic scored first for the Mustangs within the first 10 minutes of the match. Murphy followed up with a goal of his own not three minutes later. Western’s Chris Brown made it 2-1 Western on a header kept inbounds by Dominic Bell halfway through the first. Again, Guelph’s Murphy came back to tie up the game three minutes later, earning his second goal of the game. He was able to break free of Western’s defense and beat veteran goalkeeper Andrew Murdoch.

With the school's varsity soccer training camps well underway and others scheduled to begin over the next couple weeks, Durocher and the rest of the Fanshawe Athletics staff have their hands full. Although he could not confirm try-out numbers for each team since several players had not yet returned to London, Durocher did mention about 50 women and 80 men tried out last year. Leading the collegiate footy squads are two of the Forest City's top soccer minds. Martin Painter, head coach of FC London, will play head honcho on the women's sidelines in 2011-12, while Paul D'Hollander is back for his 14th straight year as the men's bench boss. Read More »

Today marks day nine of the OPSEU support staff strike.
Currently there are no talks scheduled between the colleges and the union. The colleges remain willing to negotiate but only if negotiations can be productive. We need to secure a settlement that is reasonable to our employees and affordable to the colleges. Unfortunately, the prospects of reaching a negotiated settlement are not positive so long as the union’s bargainers do not accept the current economic realities.
