A Few Quick Soccer Tips

:: Communicate
When you move into the professional level it becomes even more important to communicate on the field. Simple directions or alerts, such as 'man on' and 'turn' or 'you have time' make playing so much easier and become more important as the game speeds up at higher levels. Communication is also asking for the ball all the time, no matter what position you play, whether you're a right back or a forward, always want the ball.
:: Play with Older Players
To become a great player you should push yourself, and there is no better way to do this than to play with more experienced players. Challenge yourself by playing with experienced players when you can. It will speed up your play, make you play stronger, and you will learn from their experience - where to play the ball, when, and where to make runs.

Fitness & Nutrition
By training hard and eating right you'll get the most out of your body, and you’ll be well on your way to a successful soccer career.
Becoming a champion doesn’t happen overnight. It takes years of practice, conditioning, and perseverance to turn your body into a goal-scoring phenomenon. But it’s well worth it.
As you know, some things are beyond your control. For example, some bodies are just better built for speed or strength than others. Some people are destined to be world class sprinters while others aren't born with tremendous speed. However, that's the beauty of soccer, whether you're short or tall, fast or slow, there's still a place for you in the game if you train hard and take care of your body.
Mental Training - Just like with your muscles, you either use it or lose it. You need that brain of yours to tell everything else what to do and how to do it. Your skill, grace and coordination as a soccer player depend on it. It needs glycogen, oxygen, and nutrients but it also needs exercise, believe it or not!
Developing a positive attitude - Fixating on thoughts and emotions, day in day out, affects all aspects of our lives. Learning to be mindful of our “internal dialogue” helps us recognize thought patterns and how they may be affecting the way we handle the situations on and off the field.
Thoughts like, “I could never do that with the ball” and “What if I fail doing it?” can seriously impact the way we behave.
Don’t focus on the negative. Strive for perfection but realize that we all make mistakes. Even the best soccer players in the world have bad days or miss wide open chances for goals.

Physical Conditioning

Take a look at what the former Premiership (Wimbledon FC) and International (Republic of Ireland) professional footballer Jon Goodman has to say about soccer conditioning. (Video)

Here are a few key elements of soccer conditioning and what Soccer players should strive for!
:: Physical strength - to hold players off who are trying to win the ball; add in some push ups and sit ups to the end of each training session
:: Drills – incorporate the ball into conditioning drills to improve agility and make the drills more game like.
:: Random movements - increase heart rate and cardiovascular fitness; add in some plyometic work to your conditioning drills, whether it's jumping over the ball from side to side or jumping up for headers; have players start on the ground and get up off the ground to head the ball.
:: Stay positive
:: Get enough sleep: The time you spend sleeping gives your body a chance to rebuild itself. Try to go to bed and wake up at approximately the same time every day so that your body becomes familiar with a routine. Staying up late or sleeping in is not a good idea, as your body will have a hard time adjusting to an unpredictable schedule.
